In March we've had International Women's Day, Mother's Day and now another celebration to acknowledge how great it is to be female.

Abu Dhabi is currently reveling in Mother of the Nation Festival, the first event of its kind in the United Arab Emirates.

Taking place on the Corniche, Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak is the personality behind the project, and the wife of the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan is big on women's empowerment.

Having encouraged females to pursue work and education in the past she wants Emirati women to have equal opportunities to men.

Her gathering takes place March 24-April 2 (4pm-12am) and is a great place for ladies and children to get together for some beach dining, shopping, sports activities and learning about conservation.

Highlights include food stations, cooking classes and mocktail-making lessons.

Into the evening there are performances from orchestras and Arab singers, tickets cost AED20 for adults, AED10 for kids under 12 and is free for those under 5.
