How enthusiastic are your kids about brushing their teeth or putting their PJs on? If you're all too familiar with the children in your life being enthusiastic about getting a new toy one minute and tossing it to the side like yesterday's news the next, these illustrations from illustrators across the world will really hit home.They show just how important items we often take for granted are to Syrian refugee children, who have been forced out of routine and are lacking comfort in the everyday objects we often forgot to appreciate.
Twelve artists from Denmark, Northern Ireland, Greece and beyond show that even giving a child a book or shoes could vastly improve their happiness. It highlights a project in collaboration with the European Union (EU) and the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), which saw the EU – with the support of Turkish partners –provide refugee families with a debit card containing EUR28 per month for each member.
The Emergency Social Safety Net (ESSN) Programme encourages play among these brave kids which in turn helps little ones develop emotionally, cognitively and physically.
"All parents, regardless of geography, want to provide their children with stability - with consistency and routine. Food and shelter are important but there are so many things that kids need that we tend to forget," Martin Penner of the UN World Food Programme says.
