On Tuesday night, the Burj Khalifa joined other major landmarks across the globe by lighting up with the colors of the Belgian flag in solidarity of Tuesday morning's terrorist attacks in the country's capital.

Along with the Burj Khalifa, the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Freedom Tower in New York, and the Trevi Fountain in Rome were among the monuments that changed the colors of their lights for the night to those of the Belgian flag. Instead of shining the flag's colors, the Empire State building remained dark last night to honor the victims of the attacks.

World monuments have lit up before, most recently, to recognize November's terrorist attacks in Paris, but the outpouring of support for Brussels went beyond architecture, and the cartoons created by artists around the world are particularly moving. From a rendering of the famous Belgian character, Tintin, weeping for his country to a gathering of international characters lighting candles around the Belgian flag, artists joined together using the hashtag #JeSuisBruxelles and the results are moving.
