No Visible Tattoos and at Least 160cm Tall: What It Takes to Work For Emirates

There's no doubt that life in the air for cabin crew can be tough but what about before you've even go the job? Emirates has some strict guidelines they stick to when hiring and some of the qualities they look for are out of potential employees' hands. The Dubai-based airline looks at height, weight, and education level as necessities, see below for what's listed on their website alongside being friendly, positive, confident, flexible and helpful:

  • At least 21 years of age at the time of joining

  • Arm reach of 212 cm while standing on tiptoes
  • Minimum height of 160 cm
  • High school graduate (Grade 12)
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken)
  • No visible tattoos while you're in Emirates cabin crew uniform (cosmetic and bandage coverings aren't allowed)
  • Can adapt to new people, new places and new situations
  • Physically fit for this demanding role

On assessment day, applicants are required to show they can be "professional, empathetic, progressive, visionary and cosmopolitan" but you won't even make it past the initial application if you don't abide by visual guidelines.

Female photos:

  • Business attire with closed fitted jacket, knee length skirt, skin color stockings and closed toe heels
  • Smart casual wear – we suggest jeans and a plain colored t-shirt with closed toe high heels
  • No accessories
  • Hair should be neatly tied
  • Full make up
  • Full length photo (from the top of your head to your shoes)
  • Stand up straight with arms straight down by your side and both legs together
  • Face the camera straight on and ensure the photo is sharp and in focus
  • Find good lighting to avoid shadows
  • Plain background for your formal photo
  • And above all else please remember to smile

Male photos:

  • Business attire with closed jacket, shirt and tie
  • Smart casual wear – we suggest jeans and a plain colored t-shirt with closed shoes

  • Short hair neatly presented with minimal styling product
  • Clean shaven
  • Full length photo (from the top of your head to your shoes)

  • And above all else please remember to smile

Considering accommodation in their Dubai residences are free, as well as stays during layovers, employees can make a good saving working for Emirates. Monthly salaries start at AED4,260 but the average is AED9500. Uniform and complimentary dry cleaning means wages don't have to be spent on looking good, plus transport to and from work is taken care of.
