Earlier this month, it was reported that instead of celebrating UAE Flag Day on November 3, as is typical, the holiday would be celebrated one day earlier this year-- on November 3.
Flag Day, which falls just a few weeks before National Day, is a relatively new celebration. Launched in 2013 by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, the holiday commemorates the accession of Sheikh Khalifa as President of the UAE.
At 11 a.m. this morning, people around the country raised the flag to commemorate the occasion.
