I'm not so sure #280characters is such a great idea until we're rid of this guy, eh? 🤔 pic.twitter.com/oD78i30Fxd— BeSeriousUSA (@BeSeriousUSA) September 26, 2017
They say less is more and for Twitter users, that's definitely the case today. The social media platform announced that it would be trialing 280 characters for select accounts (the current limit is 140) but the community was generally turned off by having deal with double the words in their feeds.

Some people pointed out that they liked how Twitter's rules differ to other social media: "If we wanted to read essays we would log into Facebook so it's a no from me," @Sheldon_Cameron tweeted.
While others just thought it would give people like US President Donald Trump more opportunities to go on a huge rant. But Twitter bloggers Aliza Rosen and Ikuhiro Ihara, explained it this way…
"Sometimes, I have to remove a word that conveys an important meaning or emotion, or I don't send my Tweet at all,"the blog reads. "But when Iku Tweets in Japanese, he doesn't have the same problem. He finishes sharing his thought and still has room to spare. This is because in languages like Japanese, Korean, and Chinese you can convey about double the amount of information in one character as you can in many other languages, like English, Spanish, Portuguese, or French."
The blog adds that since what makes Twitter unique is its brevity, they plan on keeping it that way, but it doesn't go into whether that means the 280 character plan isn't permanent or whether they'll keep it but simply won't go beyond that in future.
"We understand since many of you have been Tweeting for years, there may be an emotional attachment to 140 characters – we felt it, too," Aliza and Ikuhiro add. "But we tried this, saw the power of what it will do, and fell in love with this new, still brief, constraint. We are excited to share this today, and we will keep you posted about what we see and what comes next."
I'm so excited to be part of @Twitter's #280characters rollout. Let me just say it's an honor and a privilege. I'd like to thank my wonderf
