For the first time in 38 years, a total solar eclipse was visible from America's lower 48 states, and it was also the first total solar eclipse visible from coast to coast since 1918.

A shadow was cast by the moon as it passed in front of the sun, and millions of Americans stood outside yesterday afternoon to view the rare natural phenomenon. Since we weren't able to see it on this side of the world, here are some of the most stunning pictures from yesterday's solar eclipse.
